چکیده

The expression patterns of the three CaM genes were quantitatively localized by using in situ hybridization techniques to detect gene-specific [35S]-labeled cRNA probes complementary to the multiple CaM mRNAs in the trigeminal nuclei of the adult rat brain. The three distinct CaM genes were widely expressed throughout the midbrain-brain stem area with moderate intensities. In general, mRNAs transcribed from the CaM III gene were the most abundant, followed by the CaM I and CaM II mRNA populations. Moreover, significant differences in the amounts of the transcripts of some CaM genes were found between the rostral and caudal parts of the individual nuclei of the trigeminal system. In most cases, the CaM gene-specific transcripts displayed a clear differential distribution along the rostrocaudal axis: they were more abundant in the rostral parts of these nuclei. For example, the levels of mRNAs transcribed from each of the CaM I, II and III genes were significantly higher in the rostral part of the principal sensory trigeminal nucleus, while the rostral part of the motor trigeminal nucleus exhibited an elevated amount of transcripts for the CaM I gene only. Interestingly, the CaM II mRNAs were most abundant in the caudal part of the mesencephalic trigeminal nucleus. Moreover, the largest difference between any of the CaM gene-specific transcript contents of the rostral and caudal parts was found for those of the CaM II gene in the principal sensory trigeminal nucleus. Here, the intranuclear difference was about 50%, the rostral part being the richer in CaM II mRNAs. Our results draw attention to the possible causal relation between the differences in the neuronal circuitry of the rostral and caudal parts of these nuclei and their differential CaM gene expression. This somatotopy may have important functional implications. Acta Biol Szeged 49(3-4):9-14 (2005)

Study of sex differences in the expression of β-actin gene in various tissues of the rat

Introduction: Beta-actin is a housekeeping gene, which is used as an internal standard in various biological studies. Recently, it was reported that the expression of commonly used housekeeping genes including ß–actin changes in disease states or under certain experimental conditions. Based on the reports about the effects of sex hormones on the expression of the ß- actin gene, in this study...

Gene Expression Profile of Calcium/Calmodulin-Dependent Protein Kinase IIα in the Rat Hippocampus during Morphine Withdrawal

Introduction: Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) is highly expressed in the hippocampus, which has a pivotal role in reward-related memories and morphine dependence. Methods: In the present study, morphine tolerance was induced in male Wistar rats by 7 days repeated morphine injections once daily, and then gene expression profile of α-isoform of CaMKII (CaMKIIα) in the hipp...

The Effect of Swimming Endurance Exercise on Cell Death and Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Gene Expression in Brain of Rat: An Experimental Study of Alzheimer's Disease Model

Background and Objectives: Alzheimerchr('39')s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease which is marked by impaired cholinergic function and decreased nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChRs) density. nAChRs are important mediators of cholinergic signaling in modulation of learning and memory function. In Alzheimer hippocampus is particularly vulnerable to specific degenerative processes an...

Lactation effect on the mRNAs expression of RFRP-3 and KiSS-1 in dorsomedial and arcuate nuclei of the rat hypothalamus

Introduction: Arginine-phenylalanine-amide-related peptide-3 (RFRP-3) and kisspeptin are believed to be inhibitor and stimulator of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion, respectively. The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of lactation on the expression of RFRP-3 mRNA in dorsomedial hypothalamic nucleus (DMH) and KiSS-1 mRNA in arcuate nucleus (ARC) of hypothalamus...
